Claims and Adjusters

You affect the value of your claim the minute you start speaking with the adjuster.

Just a few of the topics covered in this section:
  • How fault for the accident affects your claim
  • How to figure which damages you’re entitled to
  • How the adjuster will minimize your claim

EXCERPT FROM INTERVIEW WITH AN ADJUSTER

………Some companies require that we meet face-to face with the claimant within 14 days. (Depending on the company, this may just be contact by phone.)  That’s so we can evaluate the claimant, and pressure them into settling.  It’s much harder to turn me down if we meet face-to-face.
…..We will try to settle within the 14 days.  We will be very friendly, and really pressure the claimant to take the money within that time.  We’ll say things like,” look, we don’t know what your medical bills are, but I’ll give you $750.00 plus your medicals right now. “
I want to give them some money, because that way, after they accept, the claim will be closed.  If no money passes hands, they could open a claim later.
I especially try to close those claims where someone has not gone to the doctor right away, by offering the money, up front.  I will call you several times during those first two weeks, and every time, I will offer money to settle.  You just can’t imagine all the claims we settle that way.
If I can’t get them to take the money in the first two weeks...........
